Why do people play madden

Bryant showed up at Best Buy and bought a group of fans PlayStation 4 consoles on the spot. Sometimes it pays to be fanatical. A good friend once told me, "if you love something enough, you can find a way to make a living on it—as long as its legal. Ever heard of ZFarls or Stephen Gibbons? Those guys have solidified themselves as perhaps the most well-known Madden experts in the world. EA Sports has allowed them to produce strategy guides and such every year.

Millions of gamers count on their expertise to better their games. Transform passions into employment. How about that old coin collection? Desperate times call for desperate measures. Yes, guys and girls, Maddenosis strikes the pros as well. The first step to solving the problem is admitting you have one. But what if you like your problem?

Whether the authority figure is your parent or significant other, if that person has to set a limit on your Madden gameplay, you may have already exhibited behaviors that imply you have Maddenosis.

Has this ever happened to you? If you lose all track of time and hygiene while playing Madden , you too are exhibiting strong and smelly signs of Maddenosis. Madden has tried to keep up. White, who has a background in computer tech, has built a network of coaches. When coaches visit the Madden facility in Orlando, White says the conversations resemble that of clinics.

In a single season, NFL teams can run anywhere from 1, to 1, total plays, so in order to add new plays during the season, White looks closely at the most widely used concepts. Sometimes though, teams may show only a handful of plays out of a particular formation, and that creates an issue for Madden. Even though the team may not have shown it on film.

Keeping up with trends around the league is key to building out playbooks. For example, in , White noticed a trap play in which the Browns used pre-snap motion to set up a Jarvis Landry rushing touchdown against the Panthers. Then last season, it started popping up on more offenses; the 49ers executed it for a touchdown with Deebo Samuel. When run-pass options swept college football and then the NFL, Madden had to find a way to include it. White says that he had actually considered inputting RPOs into the NCAA Football series, which included various jet sweeps, touch passes, and reverses.

But last year, we were able to get it in [ Madden 20 ]. We were actually working on some new technology around the way we do our handoffs in the game, getting multiple characters inside of the handoff animation. The introduction of RPOs in Madden 20 was a hit. White says that most of his feedback comes from coaches, but adds that Madden does receive direct feedback from NFL players.

In past years, Madden had to adjust to account for the evolution of player positions. The same can be said for the introduction of specialized player types and positions such as nickel cornerbacks and third-down running backs. White has seen the impact of Madden on younger generations of players firsthand. But he was blown away when he heard the kids calling out coverages with impressive detail for their age. Rather than sitting in the pocket as helpless targets for any pass rusher that gets penetration, they will now move and get rid of the ball in earnest when they are under pressure.

The quarterbacks play a lot more like themselves as it pertains to pocket tendencies, which gives you the feeling of playing against different offensive leaders. It feels good to see layers added to franchise mode. Teams now have offensive and defensive coordinators with skill trees. You have to choose whether to rest players or to allow them to go all-out in practice.

The chance to add more XP is there while the risk of having a player injury is the downside. These are the kinds of decisions players want to make in franchise mode. The cutscenes with press conferences are a nice start when it comes to adding an organic narrative to your franchise experience. Tying them into weekly goals was smart as it keeps them from becoming sequences players simply button through.

Being able to play the mode with real NFL teams added something to the experience. One of the major reasons gamers buy next-gen consoles is to see titles brought to life in a way that was impossible on the previous generation of systems. The barometer for this unofficial—but relevant—metric is usually visuals.

Also, the franchise-mode-specific presentation is still lacking. There is no worthwhile halftime show, weekly wrap-up show and still nothing that makes the free-agent period or the NFL Draft feel like special events. Lastly, there is still no create-a-team option or expansion. All of these things or something comparable are available in other sports video games.

Because franchise mode is such an important aspect of the Madden experience, it hurts even more to have those features omitted for another year. We will have some post-launch updates to Madden franchise down the road. Hopefully some of that stuff will be addressed. As it is, Madden franchise mode still has some undeniable holes. The O-Line still has moments with bafflingly low awareness.
