Thredbo for village. Perisher for more intermediate terrain. Perisher is basically Merritts area at Thredbo, only much bigger.

Thredbo has more steeper, longer runs but is smaller and has a real village. Perisher is huge with shorter, more moderate runs and a sprawling feel to it. Both are good. SOme days its definitely better to be at one or the other. Depends so much on cover, what the surface is like, visibilty, wind etc.. Astro66 Still looking for a park in Thredbo Ski Pass. Jul 27, 19, 17, Eastern Subs Syd. Go to Thredbo. Put your skis in the lift queue the night before. Ensures you're first to ski every lift.
Dont worry about anyone moving your skis. It a Thredbo tradition to punch anyone in the mouth, if they touch your skis. I've been punched several times. It's a highlight of the trip to be Punched in the Mouth by a Thredbo Local who's skis are blocking the lift entry. Just love it. Have a great time. I'm someone who loves and skis both Thredbo and Perisher. It really depends on what you are looking for. Thredbo: Very long runs, most of which are suitable for a good intermediate skier Highly varied terrain in well structured areas, which are easy to move between - Merrits, Central Spur, The Basin, Crackenback, Friday Flat etc.
Good proper village, with nice shops and restaurants and a good atmosphere More non skiing options if the snow isn't good Gets slushy and tracked out at the bottom of the mountain, more often than not Perisher Tons and tons of short to medium runs good for intermediates Four different resorts with different offerings - Perisher, Blue Cow, Guthega and Smiggins More surface lifts, better in the wind More variety in the terrain Terrible village layout there isn't a proper village and food options Very spread out, very easy to get lost, lots of traversing Both of them are very different resorts.
If you want a proper village and long runs - Thredbo is the go. If you are staying off snow in Jindy and want a different mountain to ski each day - pick Perisher. Everyone here is happy to answer any more specific questions.

There is always a fun vibe around the mountain as night falls, with conversations to be had about the best run, that big fall and just how good it is to be in the mountains. So, order your schnapps or hot chocolate, and take a seat. For dinner, fuel up at Thredbo Burger Bar, with over 15 burgers on the menu.
Enjoy a tasty schnitzel at the Black Bear Inn, a fondue at the Candlelight or book in for a special Bavarian-style feast at Merritts Mountain House accessible only by gondola , or the amazing snowcat dinners at Kareela Hutte. Afterwards, ride the gondola and watch the village lights twinkle on your way down. Relax by the fire pits and enjoy a drink or three with a DJ spinning some tunes on weekends from 11 June, with nightly entertainment kicking in later in the season.
Warm up and drink up at one of many locations in Perisher. The White Spider at The Eiger is a great spot for drinks and dinner and stop in at the Sports Bar at Corroboree Lodge to soak up its fun ambience, watch the game or try some of their 20 whiskeys.
The Base at , inside Perisher Manor , tempts with cocktails by the fire while The Pub is a favourite watering hole for regulars. The restaurant and bar at the Stillwell Hotel is also popular and serves great food. Note: Due to the impact of the pandemic, ski resorts may need to limit their numbers and additional guidelines for visiting are likely to be in place.
However, the good news is that they are under an hour apart, so you could easily visit both if you have a few days. Not a skier? After spending time at both resorts, it seemed to me like Thredbo is more challenging of the two. But, I know others prefer steep and deep. However, I would encourage you to try both, if your time and budget allow, and then decide for yourself. Thredbo takes this one, hands down.
Thredbo village is really a classic little ski town, which was an unexpected find in Australia. Thredbo does this perfectly, with fire pits, lively apres but not too crazy , and a mix of ski shops, comfort food, and fine dining all within walking distance from the resort. I think Thredbo would win this one, thanks to the amenities in the village mentioned above.
All of Perisher's lift passes include the use of the skitube train between Perisher and Blue Cow, but it costs a heap extra to use the resort-access section between Bullocks Flats and Perisher. Lift passes are often referred to as "including skitube" or "train" or "not including skitube". However this only refers to the Bullocks to Perisher section of the train line since the Perisher to Blue Cow part is always included. You pay at the entry gate on the road.
If you get the skitube from Bullocks to Perisher then the NPWS fees are included in the ticket, but the overall extra cost for skitube is far greater than the entry fee. If you take a 2WD car to the snowfields you will need to carry snow chains.
You can rent snow chains, so ask us about rentals. Staying in the resort is usually referred to as "on-snow" accommodation. Usually this is a lot more expensive than Jindabyne, but Ski Kaos only charges a little bit extra for this.
